Starlink VoIP Landline Options
Published: 6/3/22, 4:07 PM
First up, I'd like to make clear that we don't provide a VoIP or landline service that is compatible with Starlink. We do provide a Starlink installation service, which is why we're addressing this frequently asked topic today.
The first thing to consider is ditching your landline completely. If mobile coverage is an issue, you should consider Wifi Calling, a service that is offered by 2degrees and Vodafone. Supported handsets can make calls using the Starlink wifi. This uses your mobile number and any outbound calling will use minutes from your mobile plan (unless you're on an unlimited calling plan).
Find 2degrees info about WiFi Calling here and Vodafone info about WiFi Calling here.
Perhaps you use a landline number as part of your home business, or maybe nana is used to calling you using her free local calling plan and you don't want to mess that up. In that case, you can sign up with a local VoIP provider and bring across your existing 03, 04, 06, 07 or 09 landline number.
Expect to pay $5-$15 / month for a VoIP provider, with any per-minute calling or bundles on top of that.
We'd recommend trying a softphone option first. This is an app for your mobile device so when people call your landline you can receive those calls via the app and when you make an outbound call via the app it would reflect your landline number. Check out this link to see a softphone in action:
If you wanted to continue with a physical phone, options are limited. At the time of writing, it's very hard to get hold of a Starlink ethernet adapter which rules out most VoIP adapters/phones that require ethernet. One option you can pursue is a wifi phone - the Yealink T43U - which you can buy a wifi module for. Expect to pay just over $350 for the hardware including shipping if you go down this route.
I hope this has been helpful and do keep us in mind if you need a professional Starlink installation service.
