RURAL FIBRE BROADBAND
Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI1), rural fibre subdivisions and private fibre installs
Fibre broadband is now available throughout rural New Zealand. As part of the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI1), fibre has been installed to schools, cell phone towers and existing rural broadband ADSL cabinets. If there is fibre going past your gate or is just down the road, Full Flavour can provide you a quote to connect to it.
In cases where fibre isn't running past your gate, we can get you an estimate for extending fibre to your place.
For property developers, we can private a quote for installing rural fibre at your next subdivision. Because we're independent on the big telcos including Ultrafast Fibre and Chorus, you might find it more cost-effective than you thought!

What are the timeframes?
We can usually turn around an estimate (ballpark) within a couple of days. Full formal quotes where we visit your premises, take photos and produce a dollar & cents quote can take 12 weeks.
Can I do my own trenching?
We greatly encourage landowners to do their own in-boundary trenching to save on costs of getting a contractor to do it.
What are the installation charges?
If a customer has Chorus rural fibre (RBI1) at their boundary already, a typical connection costs is around $2500. Pricing goes up from there depending on the work Chorus or Full Flavour contractors need to do to extend the network to your place.
How fast will my rural fibre service go?
Stated speeds are based on theoretical maximums, and actual speeds will vary. Internet services hosted in New Zealand and Australia (Google, Netflix, Microsoft amongst many) will perform better than a server on the other side of the global.
To get the best possible performance, we recommend:
- Using a high-spec router, such as a Full Flavour Router.
- A high-spec laptop or PC cabled directly into your modem with an Ethernet cable, and ensure all your laptop or PC’s drivers are up to date, and nothing else is running on the internet connection at the same time.
- The latest version of your browser.
- Accessing the internet over a wired connection.
