Throughout 2019 & 2020, over 10,000 rural households will have their landline-based broadband upgraded.
In many cases this involves new fibre cables being installed. The primary purpose of the fibre is to feed the existing cabinets which are also getting their electronics replaced, but those living alongside the fibre route will also have the option to connect their homes & businesses directly to fibre.
For those not along the new fibre routes or unwilling to pay the substantial connection fees (which start at $6,325), a limited number of free installations is being offered by Full Flavour connecting homes to new ADSL2+ and VDSL2 (Vectoring) landline-based internet services.

About the upgraded broadband cabinet and new broadband services
Significantly improved ADSL service will become available. The key difference between the very slow ADSL service that has existed in the area for years is with the local broadband cabinet, which will be running the latest generation Nokia ADSL equipment (known as an ISAM), supporting ADSL2+. And rather than sharing very limited capacity back to the nationwide broadband network, the ISAM will be connected to fibre broadband with effectively infinite backhaul capacity (any time the ISAM gets close to using all its capacity, it's a straightforward process for Chorus to upgrade the fibre link. Chorus is committed to running a congestion-free network).
Using your existing copper line, VDSL enables a high-speed connection between your property and the upgraded broadband cabinet. The broadband cabinet is running minimum 1Gbps capacity back to the nationwide network, so the speed you'll get will depend on your distance to the upgraded broadband cabinet. Typically above 20Mbps for properties within 1600m from the cabinet, all the way up to 120Mbps for properties closer to the cabinet.
New fibre has been installed in the area to connect the upgraded cabinet. We have the ability to connect customers to this new fibre but unfortunately, no subsidy is available to cover installation costs. If you're happy to cover the install cost, we can provide a quote and arrange for this work to be done. If your property is along the new fibre path, connection costs start at $6,325.
We also have the ability to extend fibre from the broadband cabinet to your property. Cost is between $10k-$50k per KM depending on what work our civil team need to do. It may be possible to reduce the cost to the individual property depending on the number of neighbours signing up for the service.
You may contact us for a quote for either fibre options.
Our pricing for ADSL/VDSL is $90/month for unlimited data.
A landline phone service can be added for $10/month, yes, we support your existing landline number.
For new customers, we've waived standard install fees for orders placed with us before 30 November, 2019.
