With the rollout of Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB Fibre) in Tauranga, we've had both individuals and small businesses approach us about the best phone + broadband packages.
Question #224 - What is the best landline and broadband package in Tauranga?
This is a question we are getting a lot. Ever since Ultra Fast Broadband delivered by fibre-optic cables came on the scene, the options have gotten far more complex and the "best value UFB" plan for Gary the graphic designer in Greerton, could be quite different to Peter the painter in Papamoa (see what I did there?!).
Based on your own needs I'll leave you to make up your mind on what's right for you (and your business) but will present some of the available options.
I haven't considered landline & broadband packages delivered over standard copper phone lines, as my definition of "best" also means I should expect a fast & consistent internet speed which only UFB Fibre provides.
ISPs such as Telecom & Snap have launched national pricing - but as far as I'm aware (based on the tools on their website), they aren't providing service in Tauranga and have no plans to provide service here in the next 90 days.
Telecom announced their new national Home Phone & Broadband Packages last week. Unfortunately as part of the same announcement the devil was in the details with the noticeable absense of Tauranga coverage. See this SunLive article.
The catch with Kinect? These prices only apply if you're a Trustpower customer.
The thing to watch out for with Orcon: Performance. There are endless comments on popular technology forum about slow international browsing speeds.

We're only offering one residential plan at the entry level 30/10 speed which will be good enough for a majority of residences in New Zealand. Of course anyone is welcome to sign up for our Business 50 and Business 100 UFB Fibre plans if they really need the extra speed.
Further comments about Full Flavour Fibre Broadband:
We offer two business speeds. 50/50 and 100/100. It's our view that the 50/50 speeds will be more than sufficient for most small and medium businesses in Tauranga.
We've deliberately priced our 50/50 speed plan at a level that individuals will also be able to purchase. We're big fans of small business and we want to make Ultra Fast Broadband within reach for individuals running small businesses from home.
Based on the performance tests we've seen, it's highly likely our 50/50 plan will compare favourably with ISPs offering the 100/50 plan.
Certainly one of the biggest influences on New Zealand's international bandwidth performance is the fact it's an expensive and therefore limited resource - it comes over the Southern Cross Cable. New Zealand's distance to the world also has a very real impact on speed.
We also offer a 100/100 plan which is designed for business customers who have requirements for fast download and upload within New Zealand (think head-office to a number of satellite offices).
One example - we've got customers scattered around New Zealand distributing broadcast TV programming. The ability to upload and download at 100Mbps vs their present 10Mbps (over VDSL) will be significant.
Have I missed an ISP that is live in Tauranga now or who plans to offer service in the next 90 days?
Let me know in the comments and I'll review the plan and add it on here.
